Anna Fisher
Charcoal & Chalk on Paper | 2018
18x24
An early portrait I did when I first started working in charcoal. I honestly don’t know much about the history of space travel, but this striking black & white photo popped up on my reddit feed and I felt compelled to try and replicate it. Honestly didn’t capture her likeness very well but it was a good study in lighting and shading.
Anna Fisher is a former NASA Astronaut and was the first mother to go into space. She started her career as a chemist and emergency physician and was heavily involved in the space missions leading up to her journey. As one of the first female astronauts, she also contributed to the design of the first space suits tailored for women.
